How can I downgrade from my current version to an older version?

All additions made in the new versions are implemented after careful evaluation of user requests and opinions. 
There are always made to improve user experience and comfort. Furthermore they include bug fixes and fine-tuning to the existing features.
We strongly recommend using the latest version and checking for new updates regularly.

All technical support context always refer to the latest version.
 
Even so, if you still want to use an earlier version we could send you via email the setup program of the requested version.

Please note that: Once a database file (the file that your reminders are stored) is upgraded to the latest version you **cannot** downgrade it to a previous version. That means you have to add all your reminders to the program manually.

Absolutely!
StarReminder has a complete backup mechanism. All backups are stored in "StarReminder\Backup" folder.

Every day on startup a backup of your database is created in the form "StarReminder.dat.DD-MM-YYYY". The backups of the last six (6) days are preserved. Additionally, a backup file ("StarReminder-001.dat") is created every one (1) hour.

Still for maximum protection you can create a backup anytime. From the Main window menu choose "File > Create a backup".

Which files do I need to backup?

If you still want to make your backup, all you have to do is to backup:
  1. backup the "My Documents\StarReminder" folder, or
  2. if you are using USB installation, backup the "StarReminder" located in your USB disk root.


This folder contains all the necessary backup files.

Windows settings
Open the Regional and Language Options applet (found in Windows’ Control Panel). On the Regional Options tab select your language e.g. Russian, Greek, etc for Standards and formats.

On the Advanced tab select your language e.g. Russian, Greek, etc for Language for non-Unicode programs.

The script for the current selected font must be changed to match your language. e.g. Russian, Greek, etc. If you cannot find a matching script then a different font that contains a matching script with your native language should be selected.


Open the "Preferences" window and select the "General" tab. Click on the "Click here to change font" link, and select your native language in the Script dropdown list:

How do I check for available updates?

You can either:
  • Open the Main window. From the menu choose "Help > Check for updates", or
  • Open the "Preferences" window and select the "About" tab. Click on "Check for updates" link.
StarReminder, will lauch the VersionUpdater utility:

  1. Press the 'Check' button. VersionUpdater will connect to the internet and inform you if there are any updates.
  2. If updates are available then press the 'Download' button. The necessary files will be downloaded and extracted in StarReminder's folder.
  3. Upon successful installation the Υellow text area will be turn Green indicating that StarReminder can be launched.

When I register the product will my reminders be preserved?

Of course! A few working hours after purchasing/registering the product you will receive via email your activation key which converts the shareware (Trial) version into a registered product. All reminders that have been added up to that moment will be preserved and you can keep on using it normally.

How do I force the software to record its activity into the LOG file?

By following the simple steps:

Open the Main window.
(click on the tray icon or from Windows' start menu choose "Programs > StarReminder > StarReminder")
From the menu choose "Help > Preferences". On the dialog select the "System" tab and click on the "[  ] Enable Log" option.
       
From now on the software's activity is recorded inside the LOG file. When the problem occurs close StarReminder and attach the LOG file "StarReminder.log", located in your desktop, in an e-mail and send it to [email protected].

How do I send you a screenshot of a technical problem that I see?

A picture is worth 1000 words, they say. If you see something is wrong with the program, press the "Print Screen" (or PrtSc) button on the keyboard.
You have now placed a screenshot in the clipboard.
You can now go to Microsoft word or to Microsoft Paint ("Start >Accessories >Paint"), PASTE the image in a new file and send that file to us.
